Do you know what your purpose is for your life? If you don’t know, you will just drift through life and not accomplish what God intended.
Ask God to reveal to you what HIS purpose is for your life. I assure you, He will let you know. If you are not a Christian, the first thing for you to do is invite Jesus Christ to come into your life as your Lord and Savior. A whole new world will open up to you. In Colossians 1:16 we read, …For through Him (Jesus) God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through Him and for Him.
Notice that last phrase – we were created for Him. That means He has a purpose for our lives.
I grieve over the fact that I believe many people are confused about who they are and what they are supposed to do with their lives. I think that can cause inner stress that can lead to other issues. Real joy comes with being in the center of God’s will, doing what He wants us to do with our lives. We need to ask ourselves, “Are my values based on what the world values or am I guided by biblical values that have eternal blessings?” C.S. Lewis writes, “All that is not eternal is eternally useless.”
Here is what the world values:
· Individualism – I live for myself. I set the standard for my life. I will decide what is true, what is right, and what is wrong.
· Secularism – God isn’t necessary. I believe there is a God, but I don’t need Him in my life. I have made it this far on my own. I believe I can make it the rest of the way.
· Materialism – The things of the world matter to me. A new car, gorgeous home, a nice boat, great job, a super retirement plan, membership at a beautiful golf course. The problem with these things is they are all temporary.
· Relativism – (This is a fascinating concept.) What’s truth for me may not be truth for you, and what’s truth for you may not be truth for me.
In Judges 21:25 we read, In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.
In Deuteronomy 12:8 we read, Your pattern of worship will change. Today all of you are doing as you please…
Can you imagine a world with everyone doing as they please? We are very close to that in the USA and look at all the problems we are facing. Our world is getting darker and darker all the time and human life seems to have very little worth. One of the biggest atrocities is abortion. Who ever thought we would live in a day when an expectant mother would think it was okay to kill the baby in her womb?
In Romans 1:25 we read, They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator Himself, who is worthy of eternal praise!
In Ephesians 4:17-19 Paul wrote, With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused. 18 Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. 19 They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.
Solomon who supposedly was the wisest man who ever lived, wrote in Proverbs 29:18, When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.
I trust this meditation has you thinking about your purpose and values. In the next meditation, I will focus on values that are based on the Bible. Those are the values we need to cultivate.
God bless you as you reflect on God’s Word and what I’ve written.
