Before returning to heaven Jesus made a promise to His followers – Matthew 14:15-18:
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper that he may abide with you forever – the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”
Both the Father and Son, sent or commissioned the Holy Spirit to be a special Helper, in the life of every believer.
· The word Helper, is from the Greek word Parakletos. It speaks of a lawyer or assistant who provides encouragement, counsel and strength.
· The Holy Spirit is the third member of the triune Godhead.
· He is active in our conversion or spiritual birth. John 3:5-8
· He makes the body of every believer His home or temple.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
· He will abide with the believer forever. He will be our resident Helper in every sense of the word.
(He speaks… Acts 1:15-16; 8:29; 10:19; 13:2;
He teaches, John 14:26;
He witnesses, John 15:26-27;
He searches, 1 Corinthians 2:10;
He exercises will, 1 Corinthians 12:11;
He intercedes for us, Romans 8:26)
The primary role of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Jesus;
For His disciples to know who He is, John 16:7-15;
What He means to them, Romans 8:15-17; Galatians 4:6;
The Holy Spirit enlightens, Ephesians 1:17-18;
He regenerates, John 3:5-8;
He sanctifies, Galatians 5:16-18;
He transforms, 2 Corinthians 3:18; Galatians 5:22-23;
He empowers people so they can serve the LORD, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11.
Years ago, I was the speaker at a family camp in Western Canada. We were about mid-week through the camp. I went to the tabernacle, about a half-hour before the service to pray. The worship team was warming up. As I stood listening to them, I sensed the Holy Spirit give me the following instructions – “Leonard, tonight before you give the message, invite people to come and seek the LORD.” If it had been an audible voice it would not have been any clearer – but my response was “LORD, we don’t do it that way; we always give the message first.” Well, I did what the Holy Spirit prompted. People started coming forward about the moment I gave the invitation. The Holy Spirit was obviously in charge. We didn’t leave that tabernacle until almost midnight. Life is such an adventure when the Holy Spirit is in control.
If you want power, confidence, joy, peace, wisdom, and love (Romans 5:5-11) in your life, ask the Holy Spirit to come and take control of your life and lead you forward.
You will be amazed at the awesomeness of God as the Spirit begins to work in you. Listen to what Zechariah the prophet declared in 4:6, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel — ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit’ says the LORD of hosts.”
The cry of my heart is for each of us who are a part of Jubilee fellowship, to be daily filled and guided by the Holy Spirit so that we may accomplish all that Christ has in mind for this church.
Paul, in Ephesians 3:20 wrote, “Now to Him, who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us – (21) to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen”
