I recently wrote a family Christmas letter and when it came time to share “news” about myself I wrote these words: “I am enjoying the best year of my life!” I knew exactly why I wrote that phrase. I was having the best year of my life because I was enjoying my life with Pam, my life with Caleb, and my service at the church. But the ULTIMATE reason I was enjoying the best year of my life was because of my time with God every day in His word.
In late 2021 I challenged people in the church to read through the Bible in 2022. I felt that if we were going to be a church that touts the importance of the Word of God, then we (the church) better be IN the Word of God. Like many others, I disciplined myself to set aside time each day to read the Word. I asked the Lord to bless me every time I read His Word. And GOD answered my prayer! My eyes were opened even more to God’s beautiful character and nature! My mind was flooded with understanding! My heart was overwhelmed by God’s love, grace, and mercy! God’s intoxicating presence humbled my spirit!
But … I want you to know … that I do not read God’s Word so I can boast that I have read it! I read God’s Word because I want His Words to continue guiding my relationships, service, and spiritual growth! Like Moses, I want my face to glow with the glory of God! That is why I am in the Word of God every day. That is why 2022 was the best year of my life!
And guess what? I believe that 2023 will also be my best year ever! Sure, we have challenges! And everyone knows I am far from perfect (including myself)! And I still have much to learn about God and what He wants to do in my life! But if God answers my prayer like He did last year, oh man, hold on to your hat!!
What about you? Are you ready for the best year ever? If God is leading the way, I believe you will! Will it be an easy year? Maybe. Or maybe it will have many challenges and times of testing! I suggest (along with holding on to your hat) that you commit yourself to spend time in the Word of God every day!
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT) – “All Scripture is inspired by God and is applicable to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.
It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”
