We all need help whether we realize it or not. There are some who need help, but for one reason or another, they will not admit it. What a shame, because real help is available.
The writer of the book of Hebrews, in the closing chapter, gives some very important exhortations and other remarks. In this meditation, I want to focus on 13:5-6.
“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He (the LORD) has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So, we can confidently (boldly) say ‘The LORD is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’”
Please observe what is taking place here —
Our LORD has said “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” folks – those are not idle words. That is a promise from the heart and lips of One who cannot lie. He is perfect truth.
Because of His promise to us, we can say, “The LORD is my helper. “What a glorious confidence. We can even say it boldly because it is true. Say it to yourself right now — “THE LORD IS MY HELPER!”
Now, consider what that means – “We will not fear or be afraid. What can man do to me? Oh, he will try. The devil will see to it. But the LORD is our helper, so He will be with us regardless.
In Deuteronomy 31:6 & 8 we read “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
The LORD’s presence far outweighs what man can do to us.
Listen to the promise God made to Joshua when he accepted the reins of leadership – Joshua 1:5, “No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.”
Folks – the LORD IS OUR HELPER. Declare it confidently. Yes, even boldly because it is true.
In Psalm 118 God’s people are exhorted to praise Him for His steadfast (unfailing) love. In verses 6-7 we read – “The LORD is on my side as my helper; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.”
Dear friend, what are you facing? What are you going through?
● Discouragement ● Health issues ● Financial problems ● Relationship issues ● Concern for children grown and not serving the LORD ● An unsaved parent, mate or family member ● Other?
Whatever it is, you can confidently, boldly declare – “The LORD is my Helper. I will not be afraid because He is with me.” He is greater than any issue you face. Hang on brother and sister, because He has a great grip on you, and He will not let go. One translation has God saying “I will never let you go.”
Isn’t it comforting to be able to say “THE LORD is my helper.”?
We base our confidence on what the LORD has said – “I will never leave you or forsake you. I will help you.” He will never abandon us. That is such great news.
Folks, the LORD is committed to us. Let’s go forward confidently and boldly to take hold of life for the glory of God and the advancement of His kingdom.
By grace through faith,
Pastor Leonard
