The Scriptures are exactly that – the Word of God, and they apply to every area of our lives. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 we read, All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work. Please take time to meditate on these two verses. Because the Scriptures are God’s Word, we need to take them very seriously.
Let’s explore Psalm 23. Robert Morgan says, “The Twenty-third Psalm has been a source of strength and comfort for 3000 years. It is the most beloved poem in history, the most memorized passage in the Bible, and the most vivid allegory ever written. Some years ago, when I went through a difficult period and couldn’t sleep for anxiety, I found rest at night by repeating this psalm in my mind. It had a calming power found nowhere else.”
In Psalm 23:1 we read, The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. David was a shepherd who cared for his father’s sheep. He had total responsibility for their safety, finding good grazing for them and adequate water to quench their thirst.
David saw a direct correlation between the LORD as his shepherd and his role as a shepherd for his father’s sheep. You may not know it, but sheep, for the most part, are quite helpless and must rely on the shepherd. We tend to think that we are self-sufficient. We can make it on our own. Every so often, God allows something to come into our lives to make us realize we need Him. He is here for us. In Jeremiah 42:17, we read, “O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by Your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for You!”
In Ephesians 3:20, Paul wrote, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
So, with Christ as our shepherd caring for us, we have everything we need. There isn’t anything too hard for Him, and He’s able to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Folks, take these verses to heart. God’s Word is alive and powerful in us!
Remember to praise Him for WHO He is and for WHAT He has already done for you.
In Christ alone,
Pastor Leonard
