In Psalm 23, we read, “He renews my strength, He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name.”
In John 10:11, Jesus said, “I am the good Shepherd. The good Shepherd lays down His life for His sheep.” In verse 14 He says “I am the good Shepherd. I know my own and they know Me.”
I find it comforting to know that Jesus knows my name and He will lead me along safe paths. That was very important where David was. Sometimes to get to the good pasture, He had to lead his sheep on a narrow path on the side of a hill. It was very important for the flock to follow him. The slightest misstep of a sheep and they could fall into a valley and be hurt or even die.
So, the secret to a happy life is to stay on the path Jesus is leading us on. He knows where He wants to lead us, and we need to follow. In Isaiah 30:21, this is what God said to His people, “Your ears will hear Him. Right behind you, a voice will say, ‘This is the way you should go, whether to the right or the left.’”
In Isaiah 58:11, we have another promise God gave to His people. “The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing stream.”
In John 14:26, Jesus promised this… “But when the Father sends an Advocate as my representative — that is the Holy Spirit, He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”
If you are a Christian, the Bible says that you were given the Holy Spirit to live within you. You/we are His temple. Paul wrote to the believers in Corinth and said this … 1 Corinthians 6:19 “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God?”
In 1 Corinthians 16:13, Paul wrote, “When the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future.”
From Genesis to Revelation, we see and read about God leading and guiding His people. The good news is that He is still doing that today.
In many ways, the world is like a minefield, but God knows where the mines are. If we follow Him as we should, we will make it safely through, and He will encourage us to feed on the green pastures of His word. At the same time, we will discover springs of living water to quench our thirst.
Yours for safe travels,
